Whoa man.. I reckon this has got to be one of your best manips.. even though it's certainly not the most complex. You really nailed the addiction theme here. Of course with the quite literal symbols of the syringes, but there's also a feeling of desperation, torment and unease, which can be linked to the issue of addiction.. as it was done in rather a confronting way in Requiem for a Dream, and to a lesser extent something like Trainspotting. There's something really creepy about the pipes and lights embedded into the arm; it's like uncomfortable in a 'there's bugs crawling all over my skin' sense of the word. Same deal with that subtle texture on the hand, which almost looks half-reptillian.. but more like melting skin (heh.. actually that coupled with the syringe fingers could almost pass off as Freddy Kreuger). And the idea of searing flesh is another of those things that has a shift-in-your-seat uncomfortableness to it (think the 'chemical burn' scene from Fight Club).

Technically speaking, it's wonderful. I couldn't even imagine the blending of the pictures to be much better. Particularly that main pipe into the hand.. the perspective gives it so much depth. I like the use of colour as well.. it has quite a sterile look to it, and reminds me a lot of a hospital. But then contrasting that is the tainted grunginess of the rest.
